- Bitza seeders Blitzes Crop
Bitza seeders zero till seeding, Improved Seeder suits all conditions
Nearly 20 years after zero-till farming was developed on the Liverpool Plains, the original innovators of the technique are preparing to launch another revolution - a fully modular zero-till unit intended to be capable of winter and summer planting just about anywhere in Australia, or the world.
Tamarang farmer, David Ronald, "The Point," who alerted farmers to zero-till possibilities with his Rogro units, has teamed up with Ground Hound co-designer Dave Brownhill and Spring Ridge Engineering's Chris Holland to develop the Bitza, an implement unlike anything else on the market.
- Zero Till Benefit
CQ crops benefit from zero till
Although the Central Queensland winter season has been particularly dry, the harvest of wheat and chickpea crops has provided some interesting insights into the impact of management decisions on crop performance.
It is in dry seasons that the benefits of zero-tillage are most evident, and when some real profitability gains can be achieved.
This season is one such case. I was shown an interesting comparison recently in the Gindie district that illustrates this point.
- Focus on Sowing Rig
FOCUS ON THE SOWING RIG
Crucial to the success of the large-scale moisture seeking sowing program run by Gulargambone farmer, Darrell Jordison, this year was a sowing rig equipped to provide good soil penetration and accurate seed placement.
Mr. Jordison used a 12 metre Rogro planter set on 38cm row spacings to plant 780 hectares of winter crops under dry conditions in April and May on his 800 hectare farm, “Barnagrotty”.
The machine was configured to deep sow the seed into subsoil moisture about 12.5cm below the original surface and cover it with about 7.5cm of soil.
